A good way to begin your vacation is by taking in the capitol city's historic sights. While staying in Hartford, visit the state capitol building (which has a magnificent gilded dome high atop the building) and the Elizabeth Park Rose Gardens. The flowers in this beautiful park will reach their peak bloom in late June. Other places of interest include the Wadsworth Atheneum, the oldest public art museum in the country, and the Hartford Stage Company, which is known for its emphasis on classic and new American plays. also take a drive on the Victorian Trail, which is a recently inaugurated tour similar to Boston's Freedom Trail. It includes over two dozen stops in the beautiful countryside. If art history is more your style, visit the Wadsworth Atheneum, which is the oldest public art museum in the country! A park that attracts thousands of tourists annually is the Dinosaur State Park. This park has hundreds of actual dinosaur prints and tracks and is located on the southern outskirts of Hartford. During the months of May through October, visitors can make their own print of a dinosaur track using plaster of Paris. Be sure to check out the cascading falls at Southford Falls, which is located in Oxford, and the Kent Falls, located in the city of Kent. Hartford
