MarylandNational Aquarium

Maryland is proud of its heritage and has offerings that  include a symphony orchestra and many fine museums, such as the Museum of Art and the National Aquarium.  A day trip to visit Annapolis is a must.  The state capital is only thirty miles away from Baltimore and boasts restored eighteenth-century buildings, among them the Colonial State House.  The U.S. Naval Academy is also located in Annapolis.

Maryland is home to the Fort McHenry National Monument, where Francis Scott Key watched the battle that inspired him to write the "Star Spangled Banner", Edgar Allan Poe’s house, and the U.S. Frigate Constellation, the oldest warship in the United States Navy.  Located over Baltimore’s old dock area is Harbor Place, with its unique collection of over 200 restaurants, cafes, and shops. Assateague Island National Seashore and State Park is situated on a long barrier island facing the Atlantic Ocean.  This preserve was the setting for the children’s book Misty of Chincoteague.  On this land hundreds of untamed "Chincoteague Ponies" run wild and are herded across the channel each July for auctioning in nearby Virginia.  This preserve is also an important stopover for Snow Geese.

Try the Baltimore Rent-a-Tour's Insomniac Tour.  It includes night zoo visits, graveyards, and catacombs.  Definitely something different!

Take a ride on the Western Maryland Railway during the summer and fall for some fabulous foliage views!

The mosquitoes are quite dense along the humid Maryland shores so bring plenty of insect repellant.
