Massachusetts Fun
Facts: The world’s first computer
was developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1928, the state
bird is the Chickadee, the state flower is the Mayflower, and the state beverage
is Cranberry Juice. Boston is also
the ice cream capitol of the country.
Visit the Boston Common, which was the country’s first public park
established in 1634. If you are a
"Cheers" fan than you must take a walk past the Bull & Finch Pub,
which inspired the long-running television show.
Sports fans will have no difficulty finding entertainment with the Red
Sox, the Celtics, the Bruins, the New England Patriots, and the Boston Marathon
close by.
The first activity
for any visitor should be to follow the Freedom Trail, which is a wide red
line painted on the sidewalks downtown and on the Italian North end.
The trail passes by many historic sites such as Paul Revere’s house,
the Granary Burying Ground (where John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and other patriots
are buried), and the Old North Church (where Paul Revere used two lanterns to
signal that the British were coming in 1775).
Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Louisa May Alcott are among the
famous authors buried at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in nearby Concord.
We
recommend a stop at the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum to browse through the
collection of photographs taken with the family while the former president
visited the Cape and view the video narrated by Walter Cronkite entitled
"Camelot". Hyannis also
has ferries that can transport visitors to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
Cape Cod is a long, fishhook-shaped cape and is primarily a summer resort
area. It has miles of beaches,
shopping, restaurants, museums, and the famous Cape Cod National Seashore.
Although separated from the mainland by a canal, you can still reach the
Cape via car, bus, airplane, or rail.

The driving style
is much more aggressive than in most parts of the country (stop signs and red
lights are considered more of a suggestion rather than a law).
Lobster is a must
for dinner (at least one night)!
Shop at Copley Place. It
has more than 100 unique stores and boutiques.
